Shoreline Sightseeing, established in 1939, began with one vessel offering Lake Michigan Boat Tours showcasing Chicago’s fabulous skyline. Now in our third generation of family ownership and operation, Shoreline has a fleet of nine touring vessels and eleven water taxis. In 1996, Shoreline brought the first Water Taxis to Chicago. In 1999, we began our very successful Architecture Cruises on the Chicago River. Between 1999 and 2003 Shoreline commissioned three brand new vessels for their touring fleet: Star of Chicago, Evening Star, and Bright Star. Shoreline recently added two more custom outfitted vessels: Celebration in 2005 and Voyageur in 2006. All our touring vessels have been custom built or custom modified to offer our passengers the highest standards of comfort and safety.

In addition to our regularly scheduled services, Shoreline has always offered Private Charters. We offer full event-planning services for our charter clients, handling every detail from food and bar services to arranging for DJ's and bands. Our four-season vessel, Celebration, was especially outfitted for private charters.

In our early years, Shoreline Boat Tours would depart from various points on the lake shore, including the famed Edgewater Beach Hotel. Today, our Lake Michigan Boat Tours depart from Navy Pier and, during Taste of Chicago, Buckingham Fountain. Our one-hour Chicago River Architecture Cruises depart from Ogden Slip at Navy Pier. Professional and entertaining guides highlight more than 40 landmark buildings as they cover the history of Chicago’s role as the birthplace of the skyscraper and of the school of modern American architecture.

River Water Taxis run between Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue Bridge, Willis (Sears) Tower and Wells & Wacker. Lake Water Taxis run between Navy Pier, the Museum Campus and Buckingham Fountain. Shoreline also operates commuter Water Taxis serving Michigan Avenue, Erie Street and Willis Tower/Union Station.

In our 70-plus years of operation, Shoreline has carried generations of Chicagoans as well as passengers from just about every country in the world. We are proud to be part of the touring scene in Chicago and we look forward to providing our passengers and clients with the best possible services in the years to come.
